I started CrossFit in 2007 as a New year’s resolution and it became a way of life that I plan to continue for years to come! I love how the workouts are functional in that they relate to making you stronger and fitter for real life. I enjoy working with people and helping them do things they never imagined they were capable of. I especially love to empower women to become stronger and more independent. I enjoy working with all ages, from kids to grandparents.

I have always done some form of physical training since high school. Discovered CrossFit online with the workouts “Angie” and “Cindy” in 2004 and started training with mostly homemade equipment. Sought Olympic weightlifting training with a coach in Alberta and took CrossFit level 1 in 2007.
I have coached weightlifters at meets, athletes at various levels of CF competitions, and various teams in implementing in-season and off-season strength training for sports. Have also worked with teens to build good lifting and training habits and with seniors to help retain mobility and independence.

The biggest lesson I have learned over the years of working/coaching people is the importance of strength and strength training for people of all ages and goals.

I started working out consistently after having 4 kids in 4 years. I mostly stuck to running, as it was convenient. In 2009 I ran a half marathon, one of the most physically challenging things I’ve done. I did some at home weight training but nothing serious. In the spring of 2016 I joined a local gym, worked out pretty seriously and had some awesome results. Late 2016 I was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma (thyroid cancer). I had my thyroid completely removed December 30, 2016. I went into hypothyroidism and lost all motivation and my metabolism to boot, gaining 24 pounds in 4 months. Stone Brook Strength saved my life. I heard about a 6 week Barbell free challenge they were running and decided if I couldn’t kick my own butt maybe they could. It was a perfect fit. I love CrossFit, everything about it, even burpees! I love being a part of helping people realize their potential and achieve their goals. I want to impact people the same way I’ve been impacted by CrossFit.

I was introduced to CrossFit (specifically Stone Brook Strength) in 2016 through my in-laws when I began dating their son, back when the gym was located in their basement. I’ve always been active. My greatest passions involve soccer, CrossFit, coaching, fishing, teaching, mentoring others and painting. When first introduced to CrossFit, I was so intimidated. I always thought that it looked intense and I was too shy to perform even the simplest movements, like an air squat. The summer that I had my first CF class experience, I was in my third year of College and was the captain of the womens’ soccer team at Providence University College. I participated in about 2 months of off–season training with Robin (my mother in-law) before my soccer season began at Providence. With a mere 2 months of attending CF classes 3x/week, I became stronger on and around the ball, my shots had gained more power, I accelerated with more force in short distance sprints, I was jumping higher than I was ever able and I had gained more endurance than ever before! CrossFit made me an overall stronger player. I also notice an incredible increase in my energy throught the days and it helped me fall asleep faster at night! After graduation, I began what I thought would be my career in teaching English to speakers of other languages. It was on this path where I became worried about my mental health and I soon realized that CF had become a form of therapy for my mind as it improved my overall health. Over time, my passion for CF grew so much that I decided to take my L1 and was asked to join the CrossFit coaching staff at SBS – best job ever!
As a trainer, I’ve added a few programs at the gym! SoccerFit & MommyFit – Pre and Post-Natal strength training.

Strength really does make life better!
CrossFit changed my life and I truly believe it can do the same for you!

After having my second child, I was diagnosed with post-partum depression and my doctor suggested that I be more active and “find something that I love to do.” I had never been a super active person so the idea of joining a CrossFit gym was scary. I did it anyway and started at Stone Brook Strength in 2016. My sister was already a CF Level 1 trainer and she coached me through my first 4 weeks. It was so nice to have someone go through all the movements with me and teach me the right way to lift. It was hard but I loved the way I felt after my workouts. I love the community of CrossFit. There is ALWAYS someone cheering you on and getting you through the hardest part of the workout! We laugh and we cry together! I also loved that after only 4 weeks, I saw positive changes not only in my physical appearance but I was astonished at how much better I felt mentally and emotionally! CrossFit has really given me my life back. It has become the “something that I love to do”!
My desire as a trainer at Stone Brook Strength is to help our clients reach their own goals. I am passionate about helping women meet their fitness goals and to feel empowered!

I stumbled upon SBS in 2016 when Robin & Aaron were still operating out of their basement. I was in a nasty Crohn’s flare at the time and was on a mission to get my health back. I wasn’t super active at the time and Yoga and power walking were always my go to activities. I loved how I felt physically and mentally after, but knew I needed a change.
I convinced a friend to join me and we did 4 months of private training. I loved that Robin & Aaron offered private coaching, and tailored each workout to us. Truthfully I had no idea what CrossFit even was or what to expect. I was instantly hooked and have never felt so empowered. The greatest benefit of all was how quickly I noticed a change in my health. Combined with a clean & nutritious diet it lead me into remission, and I’ve never looked back.
Nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle is something I am very passionate about.
Health is something that wasn’t given to me, and is something I work on and fight for daily. I believe that nutrition is the foundation of where health and wellness begins. Being “healthy” always interested me but it wasn’t until I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease that I started seriously investigating nutrition and the impact it plays in the body’s ability to heal and ones overall well being. Food and movement are medicine and are crucial to staying healthy. I feel that it shouldn’t have to take a diagnosis of a disease or ailment to shift our focus to leading a healthier lifestyle, but with the proper education and guidance it will lead us to living our best life.”

I was introduced to CrossFit 8 years ago, when I started I was 6 months post baby. I was introduced by my twin sister who was living in Alberta at the time and so I searched for a CrossFit gym in Winnipeg and became a member at CrossFit Winnipeg. I was hooked instantly within my first class and knew I wanted to have Crossfit in my life.
Years later I decided to follow my passion and take my Level 1 to coach classes and give that same energy and confidence to others. I started coaching a year and half ago at CrossFit Winnipeg, where it all began for me.
While I grew up playing many sports, track and soccer were my passion and strengths. I ran track within the short distance category from my early years of school all the way through to grade twelve where I was introduced to soccer in high school. I then played competitive soccer after high school until I had my kids.
I married my husband Kyle 12 years ago where we lived in Winnipeg until 2012, then moved to Dugald before having our second child. We have Lochlyn and Kingston who are the greatest joys of our lives and have already started to follow in mom and dads footsteps with a love for sports and recreation activities.
I love the intensity and the community of CrossFit just as much as I had with the other sports I engaged competitively in. Every workout to this day still gives me butterflies before we start, which for me is a good thing! I love the fact that if you are the last to finish the WOD, you are never alone and you have everyone’s support right to the end cheering and motivating you on. It’s the push I need to encourage me to push through and never give up on myself. It’s more than the amazing relationships I’ve made at CrossFit – it’s the confidence and belief in myself it’s given me that I’ll forever be grateful for. It also helps that things never get old since every workout is different (plus, I love the high fives! :))

Certifications:
CF Level 1
CrossFit Winnipeg Apprenticeship Program
Handstand workshop for trainers with Kristy Grosart

I have competed in 10 Crossfit competitions over the years as well as had the honour to judge them.

I started CrossFit in 2013 after a friend suggested I would probably like the challenge of the programming. I was somewhat reluctant as he was 15 years younger than me, but he thought I could do it! With his encouragement I went and I had to admit I enjoyed it immensely!
I’ve always done some form of Athletics throughout my lifetime whether it was weightlifting, playing volleyball, doing triathlons, playing soccer , which I still play today, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I’ve always been active. The premise of CrossFit being functional movements that are constantly varied appealed to me based on my training as a chiropractor. My personal philosophy on health and well-being always included foundational principles related to mindset, alignment physically, nutrition and of course exercise.
CrossFit provided that next challenge in the realm of exercise that is allowed me to adopt a lifestyle that I presently engage in that people half my age wouldn’t consider, let alone people of my vintage!
Your health is one of your most important assets and SBS helps keep you committed to it by friendly competition and the community it fosters. You either make time for your health now, or you will be obligated to illness later!
